Active membership in the RBA is available to all persons licensed to practice law, who are members of the Virginia State Bar and who are actively engaged in law practice with the principal office in the City of Roanoke, County of Roanoke, or City of Salem, or employed as counsel for any entity in the City of Roanoke, County of Roanoke, or City of Salem.

Associate membership in the RBA is available to any person qualified to practice law, who is not now actively engaged in the practice of law in the City of Roanoke and who is a member in good standing of the bar in some state and who is not eligible for active membership.

Honorary membership in the RBA is given to judges of courts of record, full-time judges of state courts not of record, and individuals elected or appointed to high public office. In addition, any member of the Association who has practiced for a period of 50 years may request Honorary membership for life.
