Procedure in Divorce Cases in Roanoke County Circuit Court

Commencing January 1, 2005, a divorce case filed in the County will be assigned to one of the six judges of the Circuit, on a rotating basis.  Counsel will then contact that particular judge's office to schedule hearings.  If the parties and counsel agree, cases assigned to judges who regularly sit in the Roanoke City Courthouse may be heard in Roanoke City.  Absent agreement, divorce hearings will be held in Roanoke County.  We encourage agreement to hear County cases in Roanoke City or Salem Circuit Courts, which may offer the most convenient way for prompt resolution of any pendente lite issues.

Jonathan M. Apgar, Chief Judge
